The MK1 Ford Escort was introduced in 1967 when it replaced the successful Ford Anglia. The Escort was a huge success and in 1974 Ford announced that they have produced two million Escorts.

The Ford Escort had conventional rear wheel drive and a 4 speed gearbox, they were also produced in a 3 speed Auto box. Underneath the bonnet there was the Kent crossflow engine and in the higher spec options the pinto engine was used.

The Escort was sold in a 2 and a 4 door option. Nowadays the 2 door version are very popular and also being used a lot for rally and race cars all over the world.

Ford Produced the RS1600 and later the more temperamental RS2000 with the 2.0 L Pinto engine. These models were produced in the UK  at the Aveley plant using a strengthened bodyshell.

South Africa never had the MK1 RS2000 model available and hence the Replica that is for sale.

This MK1 RS2000 presented in yellow with the matching decals, replicated interior are a great example of the real deal.

It’s a 50year old car and they do have some imperfections as one could expect. This vehicle is not in concourse condition and there are some blemishes to be repaired and as many petrol heads, we all love to get our hands dirty and swing a spanner or two. It was not built by Stone Tribe, we act as the agent on selling the Escort.

It’s available to view by appointment only at Stone Tribe in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa.
